Winifred E. Lawrence Obituary
Winifred “Winnie” E. Nedelka Lawrence went to be with the Lord in Heaven on January 6th, 2025.
She was born in Cleveland, the daughter of Frank and Betty Ceboll Nedelka and grew up on the family farm in Garrettsville, Ohio. She was a 1965 graduate of James A. Garfield High School.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, James Lawrence of Garrettsville; her sons, Tony (Teresa) Crew of Newton Falls and Darrin (Lindsay) Lawrence of Howland; her daughter, Danielle Lawrence of Garrettsville; her brothers, Don (Janeen) Sparks of Strongsville and Frank Nedelka of Garrettsville; her adored granddaughter, Cora Lawrence; her step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
Winnie is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Cecil Nedelka and Terry Nedelka; and her infant children, Myron Phillip Crew and Melissa Elaine Crew.
Winnie worked many years as a cook at The Brick in Garrettsville and cleaned at Cal’s Restaurant. Later, she worked the step-down floor at Robinson Memorial Hospital making so many friends along the way.
She was a longtime parishioner at St. Ambrose Church in Garrettsville where she served as a catechist, teaching many children the word of God over the years. She devoted her time with the church food pantry, delivering meals and helping with the church’s annual chicken roast dinners.
Winnie touched so many and will be greatly missed. She loved and served the Lord Jesus and was devoted to her family and friends. Her smile and the poetry she wrote reflected her beauty and loving heart. She is now an Angel in Heaven.
There will be a Catholic Mass and eulogy for Winnie on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church in Garrettsville. Food, fellowship and a celebration of life to follow at the church.
