William John Mitchell Jr., affectionately known as Johnnie to his friends and family, passed away on January 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with a long-term illness. Born on August 22, 1950, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, Johnnie's warm spirit and resilient nature were evident from a young age. He departed this world in Warren, Ohio, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones.

Johnnie was a proud student of Badger High School in Kinsman, Ohio. After ending his education, he honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970, where he was discharged as a sergeant. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

Following his service, Johnnie embarked on a career as a cable crane operator on a traveling derailment crew. He later discovered his true calling in the scrap metal industry, where he worked with passion and dedication. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Sophie, and the two were united in marriage in June of 1991. Their partnership was one of mutual respect and deep affection, strengthened by shared joys and challenges over the years.

Johnnie was a family man through and through. He was a loving husband to Sophie Mitchell and a supportive brother to Denny Mitchell, Ginny DeArment, Carol Smith, and the late Arlene 'Lucy' Root. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, and he is survived by Jarred and Regina Mitchell, Chad and Hannah Mitchell, Jesse Mitchell, and James Mitchell. His son, John 'JW' Mitchell, predeceased him. The joy of his life was his 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who will remember their grandfather as a beacon of love and fun.

An avid Cleveland Browns fan, Johnnie never lost hope that his team would rise to glory, and he shared this optimism in all aspects of his life. His laughter was contagious, and he seized every opportunity to spend time with his sons and grandchildren, making every moment count. Johnnie was known for his funny anecdotes, thoughtful gestures, and friendly demeanor. He had the unique ability to make everyone around him feel at ease, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness. His sense of humor, combined with his genuine interest in the well-being of others, made him a cherished friend to many.

As we bid farewell to William John Mitchell Jr., we celebrate a life rich in experiences and relationships. Johnnie's memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to approach life with humor, kindness, and a friendly smile. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, Ohio, where Military Honors will be held by the United States Army and the Newton Falls Veterans Honor Guard at 4:00 p.m.
