Roger S. Hildack‒loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend‒unexpectedly left this world on Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was 81.
Born January 8, 1940, in Newton Falls, Ohio to John and Mary (Furchak) Hildack, Roger was the fifth of seven children. He often shared fond memories of his siblings through the years and remained close to them and their families.
As the loving husband of Gayle (Simmerman) Hildack for 53 years, Roger doted on her and was truly happiest when surrounded by family. He was an involved and devoted father. He coached, attended concerts, and actively supported both of his children even into adulthood. Anyone who met him knew how proud he was of his children and how much he enjoyed the time spent with those who meant the most to him.
Roger graduated from Newton Falls High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Upon being honorably discharged, Roger worked at Republic Steel for eight years before beginning his 30-year career at City Loan Bank as an assistant manager.
Roger was also a dedicated member of several service organizations during his lifetime and treasured his years with the Knights of Columbus, Lion’s Club, VFW, American Legion, and Eagle’s Club.
Roger loved to fish and hunt, and he spent a great deal of time outdoors. As he got older, he replaced these activities with riding around the campground on his golf cart and talking to anyone who would listen to his stories. He always left anyone he met with a laugh or a smile.
Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Gayle (Simmerman) Hildack; his children, Kimberly Hildack (Wesley Johnson) of Wickliffe and Roger Hildack of Lordstown; grandchildren, Brooke Hildack and Sierra Johnson; his brother, John Hildack (Mary Margaret) of Newton Falls; and his sister, Frances Brackle of Akron, as well as countless loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary (Furchak) Hildack; his sisters Deloris (Kenneth) Stoner, Betty (Andy) Stempak, and Michele (Howard) Ice; and his brother, Richard Hildack.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Bernard P. Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls, Ohio on Friday, November 26 from 2-4 pm. Following the calling hours, Roger will be honored with a military memorial service.
The family asks that those who attend wear masks for the safety of all who loved Roger. A light meal will follow at Roby Lee’s Restaurant.
