Richard Frank Zamecnik, of Newton Falls, Ohio, and affectionately known as Rick or Ricky to those who knew and loved him, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, at the age of 68. Born on June 24, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Oldrich F. Zamecnik and Patricia A. (nee Hambly) Merrow, Rick was a longstanding resident of Newton Falls, Ohio. His life was characterized by his friendly demeanor, kindness, generosity, and strong faith, which guided him throughout his journey. He treasured spending time with his family and always found joy in their company.
A devout member of the General Assembly Church of God of Newton Falls, Rick was blessed to share his faith with his grandchildren, who cherished the times they attended services with him. Despite facing continuous health challenges, Rick battled them with the same courage and grit that marked all his endeavors. His unwavering faith provided him with strength and comfort in his final days.
Rick was known for his straightforward nature and his commitment to his faith, family, and community. A lifetime member of the Garrettsville Fraternal Order of Eagles, Rick also enjoyed spending his free time fishing and volunteering with AMVETS. After spending many years as a police officer and security guard, he proudly served 8 years as the Ward 1 councilman for Newton Falls. During his tenure, Rick performed his civic duty with commitment and played an integral role in serving and advocating for his community.
Rick's greatest joys in life were his grandchildren, whom he adored and doted upon. Rick is survived by his wife, Linda (nee Stytle); sons, Charlie Stytle and Richard (Frances) Zamecnik II; mother, Patricia (nee Hambly) Merrow; brothers, Michael (June) Zamecnik and Bobby (Jennifer) Zamecnik, George Merrow; sisters, Patty (Greg) Lucak and Debbie (Michael) Lee; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Oldrich Zamecnik; stepfather, Pete Merrow; brother, Jimmy Zamecnik; great-grandson, Grayson Zamecnik; and niece, Sarah Lucak.
As we say goodbye to Rick, we take solace in knowing that our sorrow will be less and our precious memories of Rick more dear with every passing day. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Aurora Manor for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Rick during his time there.
Per Rick's wishes, he is to be cremated. A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery.
