Richard Lewis Ross Obituary

Richard “Dick” Lewis Ross, passed away February 8, 2026, at the age of 78, with family by his side after battling an extended illness. Born June 17, 1947, Dick was a courageous, loving, and passionate man who committed to serving his family, his country, and his community to the fullest.

Born in Medina, Ohio, and growing up on a farm in Newton Falls, Ohio, as the middle child to Roy and Alice Ross, Dick learned the value of hard work and family—one he carried for the rest of his life. He graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1965 and was drafted into the U.S. Army the same year to serve in the Vietnam War. He was designated as Specialist 4th Class and served for two years, where he was promoted to E-5 Sergeant before returning home.

Dick worked multiple jobs throughout his life—the most notable being his time with Delphi Packard Electrical where he retired after 32 years. He also served his community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Newton Falls Fire Department for over 14 years.

In his free time, Dick loved horses and took trips with his family to Kentucky to watch morning workouts. He also enjoyed "tinkering" in the barn and any time he was able to spend outside.

Family was one of the most important values for Dick. He leaves behind his wife of over 56 years and the love of his life, the former Mary Ellen Mohn, married October 4, 1969; his daughter, Karen Obermiyer; his son, Kevin Ross, and daughter-in-law, Melissa Ross; his granddaughters, Katelyn Obermiyer and Mackenzie Ross; his older brother, Dale Ross, and sister-in-law, Carol Ross; his younger sister, Sandy Bailey, and brother-in-law, Shelby Bailey; as well as a niece, nephews, and close friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his father, Roy Ross, and his mother, Alice Ross; his father-in-law, George Mohn, and mother-in-law, Mary Mohn; his son-in-law, Jacob "Jay" Obermiyer; and his nephew, Steven Bailey.

Dick will be remembered as a courageous and strong-willed family man, whose humor and love shaped all those close to him. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
