Richard Michael Laughlin Obituary

Richard Michael Laughlin, known affectionately as “Rich” to many and "Slick" to his adoring nieces, passed away peacefully at his residence in Newton Falls, Ohio, on September 7, 2025. Born on October 16, 1955, in Warren, Ohio, Rich's life was one of dedication, joy, and the simple pleasures that come from a life well-lived.

Rich was the beloved son of the late Ida Barzak Laughlin and David Barr Laughlin, and he carried their legacy of kindness and resilience throughout his life. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary Dollison Laughlin, with whom he shared 35 beautiful years of marriage.

His love and memories are cherished by his surviving sister, Marjorie Laughlin Westfall; sister-in-law, Linda Elliott Laughlin; and his best friends, Bryan Dunn and Gary Braun, who stood by him through thick and thin. His memory will be kept alive by his stepson, Thomas (Debbie) McCausland; nephews, Bob (Jaime) Kline, David R. Laughlin, Tom Laughlin; and his niece, Danielle Kline, along with seven great-nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Rich's warmth and guidance.

Rich was preceded in death by his brother, David L. Laughlin; his sisters, Rita Laughlin Kline and Donna Laughlin; and his stepson, Stephen McCausland.

A proud graduate of Newton Falls High School, Rich spent his working years as a dedicated factory worker and had a passion for detailing cars, a skill that showcased his meticulous and patient nature. His work was not just a job, but a canvas where he expressed his attention to detail and his love for bringing out the beauty in the everyday.

Rich's interests were a reflection of his love for simplicity and his hands-on approach to life. He found joy in sitting by the fire with friends, where laughter and stories were shared under the stars. His love for the roar of engines and the excitement of the race led him to spend countless days at Sharon Speedway, surrounded by friends and the thrill of the track.

An avid tinkerer, Rich enjoyed fixing and improving anything he could get his hands on, a testament to his handy nature. He had a special connection with the outdoors, where he felt most at peace, whether he was simply being outside or engaging in activities with his family, who were the cornerstone of his world.

Rich was a man who embodied the essence of being loving and kind. His hands, often stained with work, were always ready to help, and his heart, though now still, was ever expansive. He lived his life with a generosity of spirit that touched all who knew him, and his absence will be felt deeply by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of his company.

As we say farewell to Richard Michael Laughlin, we celebrate a life that was full of love, laughter, and the happiness that comes from truly living. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him to appreciate the simple joys of life and to always lend a helping hand. Rich's story is one of a life beautifully lived and a man dearly loved.
