Paul Vincent Almashy, a cherished father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, at his home in Newton Falls, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and lung cancer at the age of 81. 

Born on December 29, 1943, in Logan, Ohio, to loving parents Michael and Ida Dearing Almashy, Paul's rich life was a testament to his intelligence, friendliness, wit and analytical mind.

Paul's early years in Logan laid a strong foundation for a life characterized by dedication and service. He graduated from Buchtel, Ohio high school in 1961 and immediately answered the call of duty by joining the United States Air Force. As a Staff Sergeant, he served with distinction from 1961 to 1969, a period that he always looked back on with pride.

While serving as an airman in England, Paul married Helen Redhead in 1963. Together, they welcomed four wonderful children into the world: Deborah M. (Doug) Todd, Tammy J. Almashy, Michael P. (Cindy) Almashy, and William D. (Debbie) Almashy. 

After his divorce, Paul was fortunate enough to find love again and married Yvonne Martin in 1987, embracing her son Roger Beal as his stepson. Yvonne preceded him in death in 2019, leaving Paul with cherished memories of their 32 years together.

Paul's professional life was marked by a remarkable 37-year tenure at Southern Bell, also known as United Telephone, where he retired in 2005. His colleagues respected him for his sharp mind and his ability to solve complex problems with ease.

Outside of work, Paul was an avid outdoorsman. His love for fishing, hunting, and boating was only matched by his passion for baseball, horseshoes, gun shows, and country music. He could often be found sharing stories and laughter with friends and family, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Paul's parents and his siblings, Helen McCoy, Kate Conley, Thomas Almashy, and Harold (Leo) Almashy all preceded him in death. 

His grandchildren, Candice Todd, Bridgette (Felipe) Madrigal, Tyler (Taylor) Almashy, Brandon Almashy, Christopher (Britny) Almashy, and Sarah Almashy, will carry forward his legacy of kindness, hard work, generosity and perseverance.

As we remember Paul, we are reminded of the words of Albert Einstein, "The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive." In one word, Paul was a man who gave; he gave to his country, his company, and most importantly, to his family and friends.

Paul Vincent Almashy's life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and his memory and wisdom will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

Though he has joined his beloved bride Vonnie, his parents and siblings in Heaven, his spirit and the love he shared will forever be etched in the hearts of his family and friends.  At his request, a private family burial will be held in the Newton Township Cemetery in Newton Falls, where military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the Newton Falls Veterans Honor Guard.
