Michael Mihalcho, 94, of Newton Falls, passed on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Ohio Living Lake Vista Nursing Home in Cortland, Ohio. A lifetime resident of his birth city, Newton Falls, he was born on November 22, 1927, the son of Andrew and Sueanne Kazimer Mihalcho.
Michael served in the United States Coast Guard and enjoyed talking about his military time spent on a ship.
He was employed by Republic Steel for thirty years and also owned and operated Mike’s TV and Radio Repair. Michael was a parishioner of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church.
Michael married Sarah Martie seventy-four years ago on July 10th. The family grew to include their children, Michael and Michele. He loved Slovak food, which Sarah learned how to make from favorite recipes of his parents. She continued to prepare these dishes until she was unable to.
As time went by, Michael would tell more stories about his childhood. One story was about when he walked through the double covered bridge in town instead of on the bridge sidewalk. When he returned home, his dad gave him a spanking. Michele has fond memories of her dad paying her brother to babysit her while she had a boyfriend visit. Probably watching me was just an excuse to keep Michael out of his hair. He also would call her to find out what was for dinner, even though her brother was cooking for him. The two always called each other each night and on midnight on New Year’s Eve, just to see who made the first call. Michael enjoyed watching TV and relaxing in his recliner.
Cherished memories will be carried on by his wife, Sarah; his son, Michael; his daughter, Michele (Don) Rickert; his grandson, John White (Shelly London); and his great grandson, Trevor (Sonya) White.
Preceding Michael in death were his parents and his siblings, Ann Kerchum, Sue Floyd, Mary Kushma and infant siblings that passed at childbirth or at an early age.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where a service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Simeon B. Sibenik officiating. Please honor the family’s request that masks be worn during visitation and the service.
Military Honors will be conducted by the Newton Falls Veterans Honor Guard with interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Newton Township.
