Mary Ann Johnson, 79, of Newton Falls, Ohio passed at her residence on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 with her family by her side. Mary Ann was born on September 11, 1941 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of John and Ann Marsine Knott.
She graduated from high school on June 2, 1959. After graduation, she obtained employment at General Electric as a quality control inspector until 1989. She then was employed by General Electric Ravenna Lamp Plant from 1989 until 1993. During this time she also helped her husband, James J. Johnson, Sr. operate Johnson’s Sport Shop & Taxidermy.
Mary Ann entered Choffin College of Nursing in 1994 obtaining her LPN degree. She was then able to give her time as a caregiver from 1995 to 2014.
She was a parishioner of the St. Michael Catholic Church of the Byzantine Rite and Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.
Mary Ann assisted her community by serving as a Newton Falls Council woman-at-large from January 2010 until 2014.
Memories of Mary Ann will be treasured by her family, her daughter, Christine Leon, her daughter, Brooke Leon and her granddaughters, Eileen and Skylar Franklin all of Columbus; and her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dena Johnson of Champion and their three daughters, Tara, Ashlyn and Giuliana. Also, she leaves her beloved Australian Shepherd, Cocoa.
Preceding Mary Ann were her parents, her husband, James, whom she married in 1968 and passed on May 28, 2020; her son-in-law, Andre Leon; and her brother, John D. Knott.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, Ohio. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Very Reverend Richard I. Lambert officiating.
Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery in Newton Township where Mary Ann will be laid to rest next to her husband.
