Mary Jo Hoover Obituary
Mary Jo Hoover, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2025. Born in Warren, Ohio, on March 4, 1938, she was the youngest of eight children born to Irish immigrants, Anthony and Mary Ann Sullivan.
Mary Jo dedicated 28 years of her life to serving as a probation officer at the Trumbull County Workhouse, retiring in 2000.
She was a dedicated member of AA for 52 years. She found joy in playing bingo, visiting casinos, and spending every September in Ocean City, Maryland.
As the matriarch of her family, Mary Jo made every holiday and special occasion a memorable experience. She was a source of strength, comfort and wisdom in challenging times that will help carry us in the days ahead. Her love and guidance touched all who knew her.
On March 1, 1969, she married Richard Hoover and together they raised four children, Richelle Drum, Regina Weaver (Mimi Pagan), Bridgett Hoover and her son, Richard Hoover. Mary Jo was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, Greg, Ashley, Jillian, Josh, Danielle, Krista, Justin and Travis; and nine great grandchildren.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, all seven of her siblings, Anthony, Katherine, Nora, Della, John, Michael and Tom; and her two beloved grandsons, Justin and Travis. She faced these losses with admirable strength and grace.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Lisa Powell and Mary Lou as well as Brenda, her hospice nurse and “friend of 20 years”, for the compassionate care and support they provided to Mary Jo and the family.
