Madelene "Punky" Kaliscak Obituary

With a beautiful sunrise on August 6, 2020, Madelene “Punky” Rose Henderson Kaliscak, 87, of Newton Falls, Ohio was called home to be with the Lord, surrounded at home by her loving family.

On March 6, 1933, in Beech Bottom, West Virginia, Robert Paul and Mary Alberta Geyer Henderson were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Madelene.

In 1947, Madelene would meet the love of her life, John Kaliscak, while roller skating at Lake Milton Skating Rink.  Madelene’s skate wheel fell off and she literally fell into John’s arms.  2020 would have marked 73 wonderful years of marriage.  This beautiful union created three daughters, JoAnne Kaliscak-Harnish, Debbie (Kaliscak) Anderson, and Teresa (Kaliscak) Kirkland.

Madelene “Punky” – “daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loving gracious friend to all.”  She was strong, devoted, loving, and quick witted; once meeting her, you wouldn’t forget her!  Her entire life was devoted to family and faith.

Her strong faith that she shared with her husband, John, led to her active involvement in activities at St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church.  As a member of the St. Michael’s Ladies Guild, she was involved with the many social events at church.

Madelene enjoyed spending time outdoors, nature and animals along with camping with family and friends.  Favorite pastimes were playing BINGO, bus trips to casinos, playing cards and games, and watching Ohio sports – Tribe, Browns, and OSU.  Most of all, Madelene enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports, school activities, and just being in their presence.

She is survived by her two daughters, Teresa Kirkland and Debbie Anderson.  Madelene was surrounded by the love of her four grandchildren; Jodi (Durkos) Pavlik, Jon Durkos, Sara (Hancock) Goebbel, and Nicole (Kirkland) Neiss and her ten great-grandchildren, Allison, Abby, Steven, and Michael Pavlik, Francesca and Giulietta Durkos, Drew and Tyler Goebbel, Olivia and Anthony Neiss.

Preceding Madelene in death were her beloved husband, John Kaliscak, her daughter, JoAnne Kaliscak-Harnish, her four brothers, Robert, Donald, Gene, and Ralph; her sister, Anna Mae and her parents, Robert and Mary.  “Murphy”, her beloved soulmate Jack Russell Terrier, will forever miss playing and protecting “his woman.”

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls from 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. service officiated by Rev. David Merzweiler.  Guests attending are asked to wear a mask.

Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Newton Township.
