John James “Jack” Lutz, who was born on May 28, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 31, 2026, leaving behind a life that was full of devotion, laughter and more than a few stories worth retelling. He lived the life of a quiet hero, fixing a problem, lightening a mood and always putting others before himself.

Jack proudly served in the United States Navy as EM2 from 1964 to 1967, a chapter of his life that reflected his discipline, courage and sense of duty. After his military service, he built a long and respected career as an electronic technician spending 35 years with Duquesne Light and First Energy. He brought a strong work ethic to his job so that he could step into retirement early and live it to the fullest.

Jack had a wide range of interests that kept life lively and full of motion. He loved fishing for walleye on Lake Erie and fly fishing in Aspen, CO. He also enjoyed water skiing, mono-skiing and snow skiing, proving he was not content to let gravity have the final word. When he wanted to make music, he turned to the dulcimer and mandolin, adding a little extra rhythm and charm to lift the spirits of those around him. Jack was also a black belt in karate, which meant he carried himself with confidence and strength, even if he probably preferred kindness over kicking. And, of course, there is also his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers whom he loyally followed and yet threatened to stop watching in the first quarter. His hobbies reflected a man who appreciated both adventure and peace, both action and artistry.

Jack was selfless, loving and kind, with a gift of making people feel supported and welcomed. He was the kind of husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who made life better simply by being in it. He understood that life was serious enough on its own and he met it with heart, wit and quiet strength.

Jack’s family was an important part of his life. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bonnie Bartlett Lutz; his daughters, Tina Lutz-Griesheimer and Kris Lutz; his son-in-law, David Griesheimer; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Ingraham-Suchant and her husband Rich Suchant; his stepson, Jack Ingraham and his wife Janet Ingraham; his stepdaughter, Jamie Ingraham-Willaman and her husband, Tim Willaman; and his step-daughter, Jessica Ingraham-Frantz and her husband, Adam Frantz. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Evan, Noah, Nathan, Autumn, Clare, Tim, Andrew and Elizabeth, each of whom brought him joy and pride. His family circle was further shaped by his sister, Maryann Lutz and by the memory of his deceased father, John B. Lutz; his deceased mother, Eleanor R. O'Neil-Lutz and his deceased sister, Margaret "Peggy" Neal.

Those who knew Jack will remember his generous heart and the easy humor that made him such a pleasure to be around. Jack’s legacy is one of love, service, laughter and devotion. He will be remembered with deep affection by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the Borowski Memorial Home, where a service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, Pennsylvania 15017.
