Joanne M. (Barkocy) Newcomb

Joanne M. Newcomb, 72, of Streetsboro, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at her residence.  She was born on January 5, 1948 in Ravenna, the daughter of John and Anna (Hanni) Barkocy.

Joanne was a 1966 graduate of Stow High School.  She worked at Kent State University for 33 years, retiring in 2002.

On November 17, 1972 in Cuyahoga Falls, Joanne and James Newcomb were united in marriage. 

Joanne served as church secretary and belonged to the Ladies Guild at the St. Mary and St. Joseph’s Church in Newton Falls.  Recently she began attending the St. Joan of Arc in Streetsboro where Joanne was also very active in the church.

Joanne enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and traveling but above all else she loved spending time with family and friends.

Cherished memories of Joanne will be carried on by her son Brian (wife Barbara) of Mt. Vernon, her daughter Beth (husband Timothy) deLaGrange of Streetsboro,  sister Margaret (husband Richard) Fisher of O’Fallan, IL, and grandchildren Mayre Newcomb, Maygan Newcomb, Austin deLaGrange, and Evelyn deLaGrange.

Preceding Joanne in death were her parents, and husband James who passed away on June 18, 2010.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, August 5 and also from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Thursday August 6 at the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.  Services will follow at 1 PM at St. Mary and St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. David Merzweiler officiating.

Joanne will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing is required.
