Jim H. Connor, “The Ice Cream Man,” 78, of Champion, OH, passed away on May 12, 2026.

Born on September 6, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia, Jim had a deep love for his family and for helping others find sobriety—though his love of fishing was a close second. Throughout his life, Jim was known for being a grump with a big heart, and he was quite the talker, with wise-cracking jokes always sprinkled in. He tried many different jobs and businesses over the years, but the one that stuck the best was being the local Ice Cream Man, a role he proudly filled for over 50 years. He also dedicated his time as a sponsor in the AA program, celebrating 49 years of his own sobriety and leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Jim leaves behind in this life his wife of 38 years, Sue; his children, Greg, Matthew, and Anna; his siblings, Donna and Lindsay (Bud); and a gaggle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Elizabeth Connor.

A service to celebrate Jim’s life and legacy will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Leavittsburg Baptist Church, 4150 Kincaid East Rd NW, Warren, OH 44481. Calling hours will begin at 5:00 PM, followed by the memorial service at 6:00 PM. A community meal will follow the service; guests are welcome to bring a dish to share.
