James “Jim” Neiss, 70, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at his home in Newton Falls.
Jim was born April 12, 1950 in Warren, Ohio, the son of Robert and Dolores Neiss. He obtained his education in the Southeast school district and grew up with a passion for sports, the outdoors and eventually carpentry. After high school, Jim attended the Cleveland Architectural Institute, where he obtained an Associate’s Degree.
A lifelong Ohio resident, Jim met his ex-wife Sharon (Schneider) White in Wapakoneta, Ohio, and they would soon move to Bowling Green, Ohio, where his first son, Ryan was born. After moving back to Newton Falls, their family would soon grow to include two additional sons, Andrew and Kyle, and a daughter, Sarah.
Jim enjoyed helping to coach his sons’ baseball teams starting when his oldest (Ryan) was six years old, all the way until his youngest (Kyle) had graduated high school. He loved watching his kids play sports, whether it was his sons playing baseball and basketball, or his daughter playing soccer.
Jim was self-employed (Neiss Construction) in the construction business up until his health no longer allowed him to perform work at the level of quality he expected of himself. He completed countless jobs and projects for Newton Falls residents, and was well-known for his quality craftsmanship. He taught his kids some of the important skills of his trade and would bring them along to help with certain jobs during the summers.
Even after retirement, he enjoyed helping his kids with projects and work at their respective homes. His kids were his pride and joy, and helping them do something he was passionate about brought him a great deal of happiness.
He enjoyed reading and learning, and his mental acuity never dulled. He liked talking about the Tribe, and always kept up on the ever-changing roster from year-to-year.
Memories of Jim will be carried on by his sister, Nancy (Larry) Williams; his sons, Ryan (Melissa), Andrew (Nicole) and Kyle; his daughter, Sarah (Joseph) Aude; his two grandchildren, Olivia and Anthony Neiss; and his friend and roommate, Celeste McMann Gillet.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Robert and Dolores.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 17, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Borowski Memorial Home. Masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations instead be made to the Salvation Army to help fight against hunger and food insecurity or Toys for Tots to help those who are less fortunate this holiday season.
