James Edward Lewis, 71, passed peacefully on the evening of October 15, 2020 at Grande Village Manor in Twinsburg. He was born in Logan, Ohio on May 25, 1949, the son of James and Eileen Lewis. His family moved to Newton Falls when Jim was young and he spent most of his life there.
It was at Newton Falls High School that he met his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Marie Hull. Jim and Marie graduated from NFHS together in 1967. Jim followed in his father’s footsteps and worked at American Welding, where he dedicated 40 years of service before they closed. Also during that time, Jim provided his service to the US Army in the 4th Infantry during the Vietnam War (1969-1971). While bravely fighting for our country in the Vietnam War, Jim received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. After he returned home, he and Marie were married on September 11, 1971. Together they started a beautiful family with two daughters, Tina and Lisa.
With his kind, hardworking, and light-hearted personality, Jim brought joy and smiles to many relatives and friends over the years. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing volleyball and spending time with friends in golf and bowling leagues. Jim and Marie enjoyed 49 years of marriage together. They loved to travel and had many adventures, including many trips to Florida to enjoy Disney World and Cleveland Indians spring training. A dedicated and loving man, he cared deeply for his family and was always there to support them and enjoyed being a part of their lives. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3332.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Lewis; his daughters, Tina (Josh) Morgan and Lisa (Vince) Scovern; his sister, Sheila McDaniel; his grandchildren, James and Samantha Morgan and Lauren and Nathan Scovern; and his cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Eileen Lewis; his sister, Mary Louise Wilson; and his niece, JoAnn (McDaniel) Hoffman
He was loved by many and his smile, sense of humor, and love will be deeply missed.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date at the Newton Township Cemetery in Newton Falls. A special thank you to Borowski Memorial Home for their caring support during this difficult time.
