James Johnson, Sr. Obituary

James J. Johnson, Sr., 77, of Newton Falls, Ohio passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family following a short illness on Thursday, May 28, 2020.  He was born in Warren, Ohio on April 15, 1943, the son of Michael and Mary Kolasar Johnson.  Jim was a 1961 graduate of Newton Falls High School.  After graduation, he entered the United States Army serving honorably during Vietnam.

Jim retired from American Welding, was the owner/operator of Johnson’s Sport Shop and Taxidermy, had been employed by Warren Automotive and had retired from the Ravenna Arsenal.

In 1968, he married Mary Ann Knott.  Together they shared fifty two years of marriage and were blessed with their two children, Christine and Jim.

In addition to hunting, fishing and reading, Jim also liked to do taxidermy as a hobby.   His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Treasured memories of Jim will be carried on by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Christine Leon and her daughter, Brooke Leon both of Columbus; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dena of Champion and their three daughters, Tara, Ashlyn and Giuliana; his brother, Mick (Sue) Johnson of Newton Falls; his sisters, Marge (Jim) of Columbus, Ohio, Nancy (Truman) Brandt and Jeanne Urban, both of Arizona.  He also leaves behind his Australian Shepherd, Cocoa.

Preceding Jim were his parents, Michael and Mary Johnson, his sister, Marilyn and his son-in-law, Andre.

The Rev. Simeon B. Sibenik of Saints Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church will officiate at an 11:00 a.m. service on Monday, June 1, 2020 at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, Ohio.

Military honors will be conducted prior to interment in St. Michael Cemetery in Newton Township.
