James M. Hammond, Sr., 77, of Newton Falls and formerly of Lorain, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019 at St. Joseph Healthcare Center. He was born on September 6, 1942 in Philippi, WV, the son Lawrence and Nancy (Griffith) Hammond.
He was employed by and retired from US Steel in Lorain. In his spare time he enjoyed working on vehicles, and singing. He had a wonderful tenor voice.
He was united in marriage with Katherine Murphy and they spent 48 loving years together until her death in 2000.
Memories of James will be carried on by his sons James (Mary) Hammond, Jr. of Berlin Heights, OH, and Johnny Hammond of Elyria, OH, daughters Janie Wagner (significant other Mark) of Interlackhen, FL, and Melanianne Mayfield of Lorain, OH, brother Robert Hammond of Slippery Rock, PA, sister Rose Bartholomew of Massillon, OH, and Jessie (Leo) Neace of Newton Falls, OH, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Preceding James in death were his parents and wife Katherine.
No calling hours or services will be held. Burial will be in Eden, WV.
