James Fortney Obituary

James "Bug" Fortney, a man whose hands were never idle and whose heart was always full passed away on February 1, 2026, due to complications from a heart attack. Born on October 23, 1959, in Cleveland, James lived a life marked by dedication, love, and a touch of playful stubbornness that endeared him to all.

Bug, as he was affectionately known by his friends and family, was a beacon of reliability to those who knew him. His ability to fix anything was legendary; there was no challenge too great for his problem-solving skills. If he didn't know how to do something, he would immerse himself in the task until he mastered it, (google and YouTube) everyone knew all too well that James was never wrong—or so he would have them believe.

His work ethic and helpful nature extended beyond his personal life and into his community, where he was a friend to everyone. James's willingness to lend a hand knew no bounds, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

James's family was the cornerstone of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delores and Gino; and his sisters, Donna and Denise; and now leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in his surviving family. His sisters, Debby Feierabend (Carl) and Dee Marcum (Bill), will remember him as the irreplaceable brother whose laughter could light up a room. His children, Sarah Bailey and James Fortney (Jenny), will carry forward his spirit of determination and his invaluable life lessons. As a grandfather to Devon, Torrie, Marcus, Leah, and Rosie, James instilled a sense of wonder and curiosity that will continue to shape their lives.

James's love for his two dogs, Buddy and Missy, was a testament to his gentle and caring nature. Despite his daily grumbles about their antics, he cherished them with a tenderness that was evident to all.

Burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5th, 2026 at Hillside Cemetery in West Farmington. Family and close friends will gather at the old fire station in Bristol immediately following. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
