Jack Schmidt Obituary

Jack E. Schmidt, 70, of Ida, Michigan and formerly of Newton Falls, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Trumbull Medical Regional Center from Cancer.   He was born on November 9, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio.  Jack and his wife  of 47 years Dana returned to the area every summer where they camped on Mosquito Lake at Robinson's Lakeside Retreat.

Jack graduated high school in Ida Michigan in 1967 and Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business in 1971.

Jack joined the Ohio National Guard following college serving as an MP from August of 1971 through August of 1977.  

He went to work for Kmart Corporation in February of 1972 following army basic training for the National Guard. He worked for Kmart for 30 years. After leaving their employ he worked for a short time at Sylvania Country Club in Sylvania Ohio as golf course grounds maintenance.   He then went to work for Store Opening Solutions as project manager for retail remodels.  He left their employ and went to work for Woods Construction in Sterling Heights Michigan as a project manager doing the same.   He retired from Woods in November of 2014.

Jack enjoyed being outdoors.  He loved farming with his brothers Jim and Jay.  He enjoyed boating, fishing, and waterskiíng in the summer with his family. He also enjoyed being on the golf course with his son Jason and grandson John at every opportunity. He also enjoyed campfires and beers with his close friends at the campgrounds.  He kept himself busy on the farm through the winter.enjoying the time spent with his brothers and sister.

Cherished memories will be carried on by his wife Dana of Ida, MI, son Jason (Beth Baker) Schmidt of Newton Falls, brothers Jim (Mary Jane) Schmidt and Jay Schmidt, sister Joan (Phil) Leaper all of Ida, MI, brother-in-law Bill Orwig of Lambertville MI. Also surviving him are his Mother-in law Virginia Brown of Forest Park GA: Sisters-in-law, Dawn(Bob) McNamara of Standish MI, Debra Racheter of Lowery MO.Brothers-in- law Ed (Beth) Lovell of Petersburg MI and Steve Brown of Forest Park GA. 

He will be greatly missed by grandchildren Jackelynn (Mason), John, Herbie (Chyanne), Sarah, Natalie, and Brody all of Newton Falls.

Preceding Jack in death were his parents, George and Ruth Schmidt and a sister Judi Orwig also father-in-law, Floyd Brown and brother-in-law Rick Lovell.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, October 10, from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where a memorial service will be held following the calling hours.

A Celebration of Life will be in Michigan at a later date.  Please feel free to share memories of Jack on his tribute wall.
