Hyja Holestine Obituary

Hyja Holestine passed away on August 3, 2020 after a prolonged battle with ovarian cancer.  Hyja will always be remembered for her lively energy and her fierce love of family.  She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a doting grandmother, an active church member and a memorable friend to many.

Hyja was born in Seoul, South Korea where she graduated college from Myongji University.  She came to the United States in 1963 and met her husband of 55 years, Doug, in El Paso, Texas.  The couple moved to Lordstown, Ohio in 1975 where they lived in the same home for the last 45 years.  Hyja is survived by her husband, Doug; two children, Sandra Kernen (Scott) and Dan Holestine (Carolyn).  She also has two nieces, Aekyung  and Meekyung, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Dale.

Up until her diagnosis and chemo treatments, Hyja was an active member of the Parkman Road Church of Christ where she helped in numerous ways including planning activities and assisting the quilting group.  She worked for many years at the Aloha restaurant and Sunshine Buffet as both a hostess and a manager.  Both activities brought her tremendous joy because she loved interacting with so many people and practicing her faith with other members of the church.

There will be a private service for her later this week.  In lieu of flowers, Hyja requested that donations be made to the Cleveland Clinic.  To donate, either use https://give.ccf.org/hyjaholestine or contact the Cleveland Clinic directly.
