George Thomas Obituary

On Sunday, April 11th, 2021, George F. Thomas, loving husband and father of five children passed away at the age of 77 in his residence. On February 9th, 1944, in Youngstown, Guy and Mary (Nestor) Thomas welcomed the birth of their only son.

He was a graduate of Hubbard High School class of 1962. He was employed as a salesman in both retail and the auto industry.  On August 19th, 1978, he married Catherine Bailey of Niles at the First United Methodist Church.

In his younger years, George enjoyed shooting pool and water skiing. George always enjoyed playing bridge with his sisters and brother-in-law. He was involved in the Chamber of Commerce of Newton Falls and helped to organize Dicker Days celebration. He enjoyed hosting large family gatherings at his home especially fishing and canoeing off his homemade dock. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile and ability to make everyone laugh.

George is preceded in death by his father, Guy, mother, Mary, sister, Jackie, and son, George Jr.

Cherished memories of George will be carried on by his wife Catherine, son George “Hank” Thomas of Newton Falls, daughters, Pam (Randy) Raidel of Champion, Stephanie Thomas of Niles, Angie (Eric) Howell of Cuyahoga Falls, and Mindy (Michael) Imbrogno of Parma Heights, sisters Beverly Scott of Hubbard, Pattie (Dick) Tate of Hubbard and grandchildren, Allyssa Freel, Sarah Colburn, Paige Freel, Owen, Julia, Isabelle, and Justin Howell, Emilia Imbrogno, and great-grandchildren Milo Freel, Emma and Mara Paliswat. 

Family and friends may call on Thursday April 15th from 4-7 PM at the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls and from 9:45-10:45 AM Friday April 16th. Funeral services to follow at 11 AM at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church with Father David Merzweiler officiating.

The family would appreciate donations in George’s memory be made to the American Lung Association at lung.org.
