Elizabeth “Betty” I. Baker departed her earthly home in the presence of her loving family, on December 31, 2020.
Elizabeth was born to John and Irene Fetsko at the family residence in Pennsylvania. She spent her childhood years in Neville Island. In 1948, after she obtained her registered nursing degree, she married Herman A. Baker, Jr. They moved from Pennsylvania while Herman attended and graduated from medical school, and later settled in Ohio.
Betty will be greatly missed by her surviving children: Vaune (Garry) Peterson, John (Gail) Baker, Kathleen Baker, Robert (Diana) Baker, and Christine Baker. Betty was blessed with five grandchildren: Sarah, John, Bradley, Emma, and RJ, whom she loved dearly. Betty was married for a second time in 1993 to Philip Gumino, who survives.
Betty’s first husband Dr. Herman, her daughter Elizabeth “Beth” Baker, and granddaughter Brooke, who all left her too soon, preceded her in death.
Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved and cherished the time she spent with her family. She enjoyed reading, traveling to the ocean and combing the beach for seashells, playing her favorite songs on her Hammond organ, and cooking delicious meals where no recipe was required. She was a kind and compassionate nurse to the patients she encountered during her nursing career, which spanned six decades. She tirelessly devoted herself to caring for others in both personal and professional circles.
There were no calling hours or funeral home service, per her wish. Funeral Mass was held at The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon. Interment has taken place at Crown Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you donate to the charity of your choice.
