Dolores Beckner Obituary

Dolores Eileen Eakins Beckner, 91, passed away Jan. 11, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Dolores was a lifetime resident of Braceville Township. She spent her last few months being cared for by Ohio Living Lake Vista.

Dolores was born Sept. 6, 1928, in Clarksville, Pa., the daughter of William E. Eakins and Georgiana Whittaker Eakins.

She was married to the love of her life, Edward O. Beckner Jr., June 20, 1947. They met at a skating rink in Newton Falls, shared 68 years of marriage prior to his death in September 2015 and created a loving home filled with precious moments their family will always remember.

As a homemaker and a cosmetologist for more than 30 years, Dolores was always full of energy as she worked. She helped her friends and family members look and feel their best. She nourished her family with a combination of affection, laughter and favorite meals. No one left her house hungry, and she was known for her delectable buckeyes and homemade chicken and noodles. There was always room for one more at her dinner table on Sunday afternoons. She kept her family warm with many homemade afghans. She also enjoyed crocheting baby sweaters, booties and blankets.

Small and mighty, Dolores was a natural athlete. As a child she played softball and ran on the track team. In later years, she chose to spend many evenings competing in bowling leagues with her friends and family. She kept her trophies tucked away in a hallway as her humility was greater than her pride. The only time she bragged was when she beat her husband at cards — a rare but exciting accomplishment.

Jeremiah 17:8 says, “They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Dolores was a testimony to this as she thoroughly enjoyed her land, growing deep and established roots. Her gardens and flowers flourished under her care. She delighted in butterflies and hummingbirds, along with grandchildren, that would flock to her flowerbeds. Dorie approached life with childlike joy; people and plants alike thrived under her care.

Memories of love and joy will be treasured by her family: her son, Larry Beckner; two daughters, Susan (Bud) Precht and Lori (Kevin) Harford; son-in-law Ed Peabody; her grandchildren, Lee (Suzy), Sean (Renee), Molly (Matt), Ed, Julie (Jeff), Nicole, Steven (Michelle), Christopher, Missy, Rachel, Katie, Megan (John), Kimberly (Phil) and Haylee; her great-grandchildren, Jake, Ellie, Myra, Emma, Hannah, Angelina, Lilliana, Marissa, Samuel, Rebecca, Jonathan, Nolan, Ian, Stevie, Kyle, Leah, George Ace, Liam, Graham and Keighan; her loving brother, Evin Eakins; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Dolan.

Preceding Dolores in death were her husband; her son, Edward Owen Beckner; her daughter, Constance Beckner Peabody; her parents; her sisters, Almeda, Margaret, Sarah, Georgiena and Dorothea; and her brothers, William, James, Josh and Robert.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, at First Community Church of Leavittsburg.

Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Fallsl, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Dolores will be laid to rest in Braceville Township Cemetery.

Her family is especially thankful to the care that was given to her at the Windsor House at Champion, Ohio Living Lake Vista and Ohio Living Hospice. While Alzheimer’s took her memory, it did not take her kind and loving heart. Compassion overflowed in both locations and helped Dorie maintain her dignity even in her last days.

Revelation 21:4 (KJV):

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
