Diane S. Balk, 78, passed peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2024 in her home surrounded by family. She was born on December 12, 1945 in Washington DC, the daughter of Emmett and Mildred Hutchins.
She graduated from Calvert County High School, the class of 1963. Following graduation, Diane worked at National Geographic in Washington DC. Not long after, she met the love of her life, Robert E. Balk, who served in the United States Navy. After his time in the Navy, they moved to Ohio to raise a family, where they were married for 41 years up until his death in 2006. They shared four children together.
Diane enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking, diamond art and yard work. She loved going to bingo and traveling. Most of all she loved spending time with her great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; a grandson, Nicholas; a son-in-law, Doug Dillon; two brothers, Chester and Jack Hutchins; and one sister, Rose Mae King.
Diane leaves behind four children, Diana Dillon, Gail Rex (Guy), Robert Balk (Rochelle Wolff) and Rosemary Balk. In addition to her children are eight grandchildren, Shelby (Brady), Melissa (Matt), Elizabeth, Robyn, Jacob, Zackary, Chesley (Nick) and William; as well as eight great-grandchildren, Connor, Bentley, Kiera, Harper, Maggie, Kylie, Ashton and Haisley; and one sister, Charlotte Wood from Maryland.
As a family, we want to recognize Melissa for going above and beyond for her grandmother during this difficult time. We would not have been able to do it without her and the love she had for her Granny.
Calling hours will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024 at the Borowski Memorial Home, where a funeral will follow at 12:00 p.m. Diane will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Paris Township. The family invites relatives and friends for dinner at 4:00 p.m. at The RSM Building, 737 Ridge Road, Newton Falls, Ohio 44444.
