Charles E "Charlie" Grounds Obituary

Charles E. “Charlie” Grounds, 76, of Warren, Ohio passed on Thursday, October 28, 2021 in UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio.

Charlie was born in Akron, Ohio, the son of Emmett “Mosey” Grounds and Susan Zubko Grounds.

He was a lifelong resident of Warren and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1963.  Charlie was awarded letters during the three years of playing football and while a senior playing defensive end the team was undefeated.  After graduation, he would attend Arizona State University on a four year scholarship.

A Gulf War veteran, Charlie retired after twenty-two years from the Ohio National Guard serving in the 324 M.P. Company with at rank of Sgt. 1st Class.  He had also been employed by Delphi Packard as a maintenance machinist, retiring after his thirty-four years of service.

Charlie would tell people that he was a man of many hats.  Throughout his years, he enjoyed many hobbies and interests ranging from growing his many flowers and vegetables, cooking gourmet meals to antique Victorian furniture.

He was a member of the Smith & Wesson Gun Association and various antique, garden and shooting organizations.  He was always willing to answer any questions that a person might have in the various fields that he was knowledgeable of; also including his knowledge of the early settlement of Trumbull County.  Charlie was also a member of the First United Church of Christ in Warren, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn L. Allen Grounds; his son, Christopher C. Grounds of Parma Heights, Ohio; his sister, Judy Grounds Kondzich of South Carolina; his brother, Tom Grounds of Missouri; his step-daughters, Brenda Kerber and Debbie Miles; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Charlie in death were his parents and his step-son, James Waller.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.  A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gerald Gammon officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Newton Falls Veterans Organization at the Newton Township Cemetery.  Interment will follow.
