Bruce Blane Barr Obituary
Bruce Blane Barr, a cherished family man, an avid outdoorsman, and a respected retiree from General Motors Lordstown, passed away on August 11, 2024, at the age of 81. Bruce, more fondly known by those who knew him, succumbed to natural causes in the comfort of his home in Lordstown, Ohio, surrounded by the love and memories that he had created over a lifetime.
Born in Charlestown, Ohio on October 5, 1942, son of Kenneth Barr and Margaret Woolard-Barr, Bruce was a beacon of strength and resilience throughout his life.
Although he bid farewell to many dear to him, including his beloved wife, Joyce Barr; his twin brother, Gene; his brothers, William, Lewis, and Kenneth; and his sisters, Yvonne Holdorf and Marion Barr, his warmth and light live on through his surviving siblings, June Hymes and Ann Saksa.
Bruce’s journey of love and legacy continued with his adoring children, Christine (husband, Robert) Boyd, Sara Deweese, Bruce (wife, Shirl) Barr Jr., and Michelle Barr. His wisdom, laughter, and guidance flowed into the lives of his treasured grandchildren, Kayla (husband, Joseph) Hopkins, Emma Deweese, and Jerad Deweese Jr; and beamed brightly in his great-grandson, Noah Boyd.
Bruce's love for the great outdoors was as expansive as the skies he so loved to explore through his hobbies of hunting, fishing, and birdwatching. He found peace in the simple pleasure of being amongst nature, often spending time with his family in these pursuits. Equally, he relished moments spent indoors, engaging with the worlds within the screen through TV and YouTube, which kept him connected and entertained.
Those who were privileged to know Bruce understood that his greatest joys came from the moments shared with his family. A funny, handy, and selfless man, he became the heart and soul of every family gathering.
Although our hearts ache at the loss of such a remarkable man, the memories and the love we carry for Bruce Blane Barr will forever shape us. As we look to the trees he cherished, the waters he cast his line into, and the skies he gazed upon, we do so with gratitude for having had him as our guide, our mentor, our friend, and our family.
Our lives are undoubtedly richer for having been touched by Bruce. His easy smile and generous spirit will live on through each act of kindness we perform and in every story we share about this extraordinary man. With every sunrise and sunset, we will remember Bruce, a true embodiment of strength, love, and integrity.
