Bill J. Douglass, 87, of Newton Falls, Ohio passed on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at his residence. He was born on October 31, 1933 in Sacramento, California, the only child of William Charles Douglass and Freda Lucille Bowman Douglass.
Following high school, he enlisted into the United States Air Force. He was assigned with the Airways and Air Communication Squadron serving during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, Bill was able to attend college under the GI Bill.
Upon completion of college, he was employed by the Heavy Military Division of General Electric in Syracuse, New York. As an Electronic Engineer, he worked worldwide in Field Service. Bill eventually settled in Newton Falls, where he remained until the time of his passing.
Bill was of the Catholic faith and a parishioner of Saints Mary and Joseph Parish in Newton Falls. One of his most memorable trips was the trip to Egypt and the Holy Lands where he met Prime Minister Golda Meir.
Bill was a past Commander and life member of the Newton Falls VFW Post 3332, where he was presented with the Man of the Year Award. He actively served with the Newton Falls Honor Guard. He was a Master Mason with the Newton Falls Lodge 462, a ham radio operator having a technician license with the call sign KB8 NQU and as a youth obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Memories of Bill will be carried on by his family, his son, Brian Douglass and his wife, Geri and his grandsons, Steven Michael Douglass and Christopher David Douglass of Aloha, Oregon; his daughter-in-law, Francine Doris Maloy Douglass and his grandchildren, Franklin Craig Douglass, Norman Brian Douglass, Jr. and Denise Jean Johnson; his great grandchildren, Sierra Marie Douglass, Norman Brian Douglass, Jr., Mariah Desirae Douglass and Kynna Rose Johnston.
Preceding Bill were his parents, his son, Craig John Douglass; his brother, Laird “Larry” Michael Douglass and his sister, Ricarda “Ricky” Roulet; his former wife, Mary Therese Crosyar Douglas and his companion Adeline Mary Rogowski Smolak with whom he made his home.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls with a Masonic Service to be held at 10:00 a.m. A service will follow the visitation.
Bill will be laid to rest next to Adeline in the St. Joseph Cemetery where the United States Air Force and Newton Falls Honor Guard will hold military honors at noon.
