A private funeral service was held on Jan. 25 for Ann Marie Kovach of, Newton Falls, Ohio, who passed away at age 94 on Jan. 17, 2020. Arrangements were handled by the Borowski Memorial Home. Father David Merzweiler, pastor of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church and Our Lady of the Lakes Parishes, St. Catherine Church and St. James Church, presided with interment in the Newton Falls Cemetery.
Ann was born on Feb. 7, 1925 in Boswell, PA to David and Teresa (Phillips) Pitcovich. One of 10 children, she was preceded in death by her brothers George, David, Valentine, John, Frank and Rudy Phillips and her sisters Rose Reider, Mary Chavlich and Silvia Pitcovich.
Ann graduated from Newton Falls High School and married the late George Kovach in 1948. They were married for 66 years and lived in Newton Falls until he passed away at the age of 92 in 2014. Ann and George were blessed with three children, Linda Kovack, Myrtle Beach, SC; Stephen Kovack, Colonel, USMC Ret. (Karen), San Diego, CA and Carrie (Dr. Jeff) Earley, Myrtle Beach, SC.
Also surviving are seven wonderful grandchildren and one great grandson. Suzanne Nemet, Stephanie (Todd) Atkins, Jennifer Nemet all of Columbus, OH; Daniel Nemet, Marysville, OH; Justin (Laura) Earley, Rancho Mission Viejo, CA; Shane Earley, St. Augustine Beach, FL; Brock Earley, Myrtle Beach, SC and Zachary Atkins aged 5.
For the last four years of her life, Ann was cared for by her niece, Jan Fultz, of Newton Falls.
Ann was a homemaker who also worked at the Ravenna Army Arsenal in the medical department for 12 years. She was a swimming instructor at the YWCA in Warren, OH as well as a volunteer lifeguard. Ann also taught her children to water ski. She was an avid reader, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and loved to watch NASCAR races.
Ann was the heart of her family and will be missed dearly.
