Sonny was a lifetime area resident, graduating from high school in 1967.  He attended the Newton Falls First Church of God.

He proudly served our country in the US Army.  While serving in Vietnam for 18 months he was an aircraft mechanic and repairman.

Sonny was employed by McDonald Steel.

In his spare time he enjoyed riding his Harley, playing pool and going to garage sales.  Above all else he enjoyed spending time with his grandson Caiden.

Cherished memories of Sonny will be carried on by his former wife and friend Terisa Slater of Canfield, sons Michael (Kayla) Slater of Newton Falls, Donald (Denisse) Slater of Boardman, daughter Krista (Aaron) Walker of Niles, sister Carol Sunderman of Youngstown, grandchildren Caiden, Joel, Andrew, Sophia, Charleston, and soon to be born grandchildren Delaney and namesake Raylin.

Preceding Sonny in death were his parents Ray and Betty, and sisters Linda Champlin and Marilyn Slater.

Family and friends may call on Friday September 29 from 4 – 6 PM at Newton Falls First Church of God where services will follow.  Sonny will be honored for his services to our country by the US Army and Newton Falls Veteran Organization.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to help with funeral costs.  They can be made to any of the three children, Michael, Donald or Krista.  You can also leave your donation with the funeral home or mail it to them at 30 Ridge Road, Newton Falls, Ohio 44444.
