Marion “Molly” Schafer, 92, a long-time resident of Newton Falls, died Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Ohio Living Lake Vista in Cortland, Ohio.
Born in 1927 in San Francisco, California, Molly moved to Northeastern Ohio in 1944 and settled in Newton Falls in 1968. As a single parent, Molly held many jobs before obtaining her final job as a custodian at the Newton Falls High School, where she worked until her retirement. She was loved by many generations of students and teachers and was well known for her work ethic, compassion, generosity and humor. Even at 92 years old, she remained of sound mind and could frequently be seen teasing the staff at Lake Vista.
Life was not easy for a single mother, but Molly put all her heart into her family, and what she couldn’t provide for with money, she more than made up for with love. A loving mother and grandmother, Molly was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. Family and friends will always remember her favorite pastime of decorating for every holiday.
Molly is survived by her three adored children, Susan Devericks of Delaware, Richard Schafer of Newton Falls and Dodie Burk of Warren. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Kelly Kiser (Stephen) of Delaware, Kristine Simon (Cecil) of Delaware, Danielle Burk (Chris) of Akron, and Rhiannon Burk (Logan) of Asheville; her great granddaughters, Kiernan Kiser, currently stationed in Japan with the US Navy, and Gertrude Lunce of Akron and her dog, Sassy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where a service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
