Joseph “Big Joe” Carl Landa, Sr., 73, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren.  He was born the son of Carl, “Cracky”, Landa and Katie Jack “Jackie” Pridgeon in Perry, Florida.

Joe graduated from Farrell High School, class of 1962.  Following graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.  After his time in the service he married the lady who stole his heart, Catherine Jean Coyne and they began their life together.  They settled in Newton Falls, Ohio where they raised their three children.  Joe and Jean celebrated their 51 years of marriage this past April.

Joe was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Cavaliers.  Joe found time to golf, bowl, and coach for the Newton Falls Little Tigers.  He was a Little League Baseball coach.  Joe also was a member of Amvets Post 112 in Newton Falls.

He retired from General Motors after 38 years of service.  Joe was a great provider for his family, a devoted husband and father who also enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren.

Big Joe will always be remembered for the happiness and laughter he brought to all that were a part of his life.  He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.  May you rest in peace Big Joe.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Catherine (Coyne) Landa, are his son Joseph Carl Landa Jr. of Newton Falls, his daughter Nicole Marie Withrow and her husband Jack of Newton Falls, his youngest son Michael James Landa also of Newton Falls, and five grandchildren Hannah Withrow, Kyle Landa, Brenna Landa, Nathan Landa and Jackson Withrow.

A service of remembrance will be held Thursday September 7th from 5 – 7 PM at the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, followed with a dinner at Amvets Post 112, also in Newton Falls.
