Eugene Muldowney II

Eugene Muldowney, II, 54, of Rootstown, Ohio passed suddenly on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in the University Hospital Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio.  He was born on March 26, 1963 in Hanover, Pennsylvania, the son of Eugene and Carol Thompson Muldowney.  Eugene had graduated from Southeast High School in 1981, then attended Kent State as a history major, graduating in 1985.  Continuing his education, he completed his studies at the Akron Law School and earned his law degree in 1988.

Throughout his career in both public and private practice, Eugene was respected for his professionalism and his ethics.  Beginning in 1989, he served his community in the Portage County prosecutor’s office.  His skill led to Eugene’s promotion to Chief Prosecutor for Portage County in 2017. 

Eugene held memberships in the Fraternal Order of Police and the Knights of Columbus Council 5173.  He had also been involved in the Portage County Democratic Party’s Central Committee.   

Gene’s favorite pastime was raising livestock and gardening on his farm.  He was a football sports fan, always cheering on his favorite team, Norte Dame.     

He was family orientated, offering his knowledge, stability and supportiveness to those he loved.  When Gene was faced with adversity, he faced his responsibilities and took charge.  He was a man of virtue and value.  He is loved and will be remembered.

Cherished memories will be carried on by his loving wife, Lisa; his children, Molly, Eugene, Lewis and Nicholas; his stepchildren, Walker Lee, Makenzie Lee; and Katy Fleck, his mother, Carol; his siblings, Shawn (Devonne) Muldowney, Michael (Jennifer) Muldowney, Catherine (Clayton) Gellatly, June (Keith) Fischer and Rebecca Muldowney and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gene was his father, Eugene.

The family requests that material contributions may be made in memory of Gene to the Pegasus Farm, 7490 Edison Street, Hartville, Ohio 44632.

The family will meet friends on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown, Ohio. To honor his Irish heritage, the family requests those attending to wear green.  Following visitation, a service will be held with Rev. David Misbrener as celebrant.    

Interment will follow in the Palmyra Cemetery.

As Gene continues on his journey, “May the road rise up to meet you.  May the wind be always at your back.  May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand”.
