Denzil Roy Carpenter, age 68, of Warren, Ohio earned his final wings, both angel and airborne, on Saturday, November 18, 2017 after a long battle with Agent Orange related Parkinson’s Disease, cancer and kidney failure.  He was surrounded by his loving wife and children through his final journey.  As a Vietnam Veteran, his battle with Vietnam and Agent Orange never ended.  He paid the ultimate sacrifice as a patriot for his country.

Roy was born in Buckhannon, WV on June 13, 1949 to Denzil and Rosa (Bennett) Carpenter.  He graduated from Windham High School in 1967 going on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Youngstown State University.  Roy valiantly served his country as a decorated Army paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, 173rd Brigade, voluntarily and selflessly serving in the Vietnam Conflict.

Roy married his soulmate, Linda Perich, on July 6, 1987 in Warren.  They had five children together Shawn (Amber) Carpenter of Chicago, IL, Brent Carpenter of Cortland, Olivia Simpson, Brock (Stephanie) Brunstetter and Peter Carpenter, all of Warren.

His grandchildren brought him the most joy.  He loved nothing more than to share his love of the arts and joy of the Lord with them.  He leaves behind Daric and Julian Simpson, Dylan Campbell, his “princess” Blyss Brunstetter, Ava and Hudson Carpenter and Samantha and Kaitlyn Carpenter, along with his sister Mellany Wooten.

Roy also leaves behind his beloved “in-law” family Ken (Judy) Perich of Oak Hill, VA, Dr. Larry (Barb) Perich of Odessa, FL, and David (Lynne) Perich of New Port Richey, FL.  Roy and Linda spent winters and any other possible time in Florida with their family. Being a “snowbird” brought great joy to Roy and he enjoyed nothing more than going to Sand Pearl on the beach in Clearwater, spending time with his “Florida family”.

Roy was an entrepreneur his entire life.  He had a wonderful career with his wife as a photographer and owner of Perich Studio Photography in Warren.  He captured the weddings, events, and cherished moments for the Warren community for decades.  Roy also worked at his beloved Youngstown State University until his retirement.

Roy had many talents.  He was a painter, artist, sculptor, photographer and above all a man of God.  He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, shooting pool and spending time with his family , all while praising the Lord for his life and his blessings.

Roy will eternally be smiling down on us with the same huge heartfelt grin from heaven that he had daily on earth.  We want to celebrate his joyous homecoming with all of his family and friends.

Calling hours will be on Friday November 24 from 4 – 6 PM at the Victory Christian Fellowship at 4257 Tod Avenue NW in Warren, followed by a Memorial Blessing and celebration of life at 6 PM with Pastor Rob Bateman officiating.  Following services Full Military Honors will be provided for Roy by the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 2.
